PLGE Wins “Best of the Bay” Award

The Pinellas Living Green Expo has received a 2009 Best of the Bay award for the “Best Green Expo/Festival”. This is the first year that an award was given for this category, and we hope to see the award become an annual tradition for the Expo.

As strong believers in the drive towards a greener and more sustainable community, this award affirms all that we have been working towards since our first Expo back in 2006. The past few years have seen our Expo grow from a small event in St. Petersburg, expand to the larger Harborview  Center in Clearwater, and finally return back to a multi-venue location in St. Petersburg. We hope to continue to grow and expand, sharing our message of sustainability and conservation with all residents of Tampa Bay. Thank you for voting us the 2009 Best of the Bay “Best Green Expo/Festival”.

2010 Expo moves back to St. Petersburg

This year, the Pinellas Living Green Expo returns to its original host city of St. Petersburg. After spending the past two years at the beautiful Harborview Center in Clearwater, the Expo comes back to its original location at the Coliseum in downtown St. Petersburg, with additional space at the Sunshine Center across the street.

Holding the 2010 Expo at two locations give us a unique opportunity to bring new and exciting additions to the event. This new expanded venue provides more space for events and activities for the entire family, including an outdoor stage for live performances and booths selling food from local vendors.

2010 Tampa Bay Living Green Expo

The fifth annual Tampa Bay Living Green Expo will be held on June 5th and 6th this year. The event will be held at the St. Petersburg Coliseum and will include the entire Mirror Lake Complex – the Sunshine Center, Shuffleboard Courts, Lawn Bowling Courts and Ballroom. This year’s Expo theme will be a focus on energy retrofitting.

The Expo was first organized in 2006 as the Pinellas Living Green Expo and has grown each year to become the region’s largest showcase of sustainable products and services. In 2010, the name was changed to the Tampa Bay Living Green Expo to better reflect the regional nature of both our visitors and our exhibitors. The Expo is proud to have been awarded the “Best Green Expo/Festival” by Creative Loafing in their Best of the Bay 2009 reader’s poll.

The Tampa Bay Living Green Expo provides real solutions for people to live better, healthier lives with less impact on the environment. The Expo connects people who are interested in making a positive difference in their lives and their communities.

The Expo is a collaborative effort organized and conducted by a steering committee of representatives from local governments, schools, colleges, for-profit businesses and non-profit organizations. Our exhibitors have been reviewed by our screening committee to be sure they meet our criteria for sustainability.

Some of the events we have scheduled for run of the Expo…

A Green Jobs Fair: In partnership with the Urban League, the jobs fair will feature employment opportunities and training programs.

Information Seminars: Approximately 40 seminars will be offered during the Expo. The sessions focus on a broad range of sustainability and environmental issues. Presenters include college professors, government experts and knowledgeable representatives from for-profit and non-profit organizations.

The Kids Korner:  A place for kids where themes of sustainability, reuse and recycling are part of the fun - build a hat, plant a flower, create and imaginate!

Trashy Art Show: Local K-12 students have been invited to create original projects using recycled materials or addressing a sustainability theme. This is a juried art show with professional artists serving as judges and cash prizes will be awarded to the winning artists.

Touch Tank: The Pier Aquarium will take their creatures on walkabout to the Expo. The touch tank will be open in the morning both Saturday and Sunday.

Outdoor Displays: Outside exhibits will include a PSTA Hybrid Bus, an electric boat and a WastePro Hybrid Garbage Truck
